The Pain of Panes: New Windows in Short Supply

Two-thirds of builders cited a glass lack for windows, shower doorways, etcetera. The source problem? A great deal of it is created in China, Mexico and India.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Glass joined the list of setting up resources in brief supply. A range of industries, which include shower door suppliers and window installers, report glass shortages.

Virtually two-thirds of household builders cited windows as their biggest material shortage, in accordance to a modern survey from John Burns Real Estate Consulting. Rounding out the leading 4 in more shortages are lumber, engineered wood items and concrete.

Window delays could range from four to 15 months, although some are stretching up to 45 months.

Why glass? An international logistics backlog led to shortages of glass and other materials, gurus say. Many glass producers have moved operations overseas, and China, Mexico and India ordinarily export the most glass and stone to the U.S.

The problem also impacts other industries. The glass shortage has specially affected the offer of glass jars and bottles, a contributor to the soaring expense of grocery products currently.
